Explore the Possibilities
I draw for joy and self-expression; hyper-focused on colors, lines and movement. For me, drawing is a calming exercise in mindfulness; an immersion in the experience. I haven't studied art, so I have few expectations and the end result is usually a surprise. A hosta plant becomes a dancer's skirt; a lake morphs into a sanctuary for mythical creatures; a curved line becomes symbolic of the inner workings of a mind, or heart. There's passion and energy, whimsy and fantasy. My art is colorful, abstract and even psychedelic. It expresses the joy and confusion of being alive!
Most of my work is done with markers, but there are so many types! It takes a long time to complete drawings, but I've more control of a marker than a brush (for someone with a slight hand tremor, I am really into smooth curves LOL!)
I use a varied combination of water, alcohol and oil based markers, along with metallic, iridescent, glitter, florescent, chalk and puffy. Mostly on Bristol or other papers, canvas or other mediums. Sometimes I'll use colored pens or pencils, or brushes to paint with regular watercolors, acrylics, or oils.
I am in awe of Nature, from trees and rocks to flowers and sunsets. I'm fascinated by birds, animals and insects. All appear in my work in some form (usually fantastical). Keep an eye out for eyes, often hidden, observing the observers.
Another major influence stems from my work as a Productivity and Organization coach, helping people like me, with neuro-diverse minds (ADD/ADHD, Executive Function challenges).
I'm fascinated by, and my art often represents, the complex inner workings of our minds.
Thanks for exploring my art. I hope you enjoyed my fantasy world!
